People can inspect individual spectacles, reading through their descriptions. It’s also interesting to see what tags people assigned to each of the images.

During Major 2.1 (Graphic Design) @ WdKA, students accumulated hundreds of images. These were termed “spectacles” (i.e. events and actions which promote idle consumerism). Philosophical theory aside, we hosted an exhibition revolving around these spectacles and their implications. We had to convey the emotion of being trapped in this “society of spectacles” without deferring visitors to a brick-sized book.
To this end, I designed an interactive visualisation using the collected images. The visualisation—titled For Show—provided visitors the emotional context to the rest of the exhibition.
The images surround the viewer, trapping them inside a globe of spectacles. Images are connected based on their category, contributing to a feeling of being overwhelmed by the web created by the lines.
The mobile version features a slightly simplified navigation without the vertical panning, which I could forgo thanks to the extra vertical screen real estate. This made the website easier to use without a cursor.
